Today’s episode was a family-centric episode. So expect lots of the sisters, and Elise, Woh, Will, Melissa, Calvin, Sunny and Catherine are nowhere to be seen. Spoilers ahead! (Boy, I never get tired of saying this)
So with yesterday’s accident fresh on our minds, we jump straight to the aftermath of it – Mummy ends up in the police station for questioning, and Jessica is in the hospital in a bit of hysteria. Mummy says her bit to the police with great ease, as if she was really the one doing the damage, while Jessica is positively going nuts in the hospital. Of course, Martin knows about her situation, and is only too glad to provide support in the form of a lawyer for Mummy. Because Mummy is taking the stick for Jessica, for the sake of the baby. Oh Jessica, why do you have to create these sort of silly problems every time?
In fact, she looks absolutely frightened and traumatised for running over that little boy. Some great acting from Ada Choi here I must say, the guilt and fear shows clearly in her eyes, and she is very effective in bringing these emotions to the audience as well. In the scene above she accidentally exposes the fact that it was she who ran over the boy, not Mummy dearest.
Great acting from Maggie as well, conveying Sylvia’s indecision. She is taken aback by her sister’s fear at first, but then figures out that it was Jessica who did it. Then comes the part where she is torn between doing the right thing or keeping the family secret. She understands why Mummy is protecting Jessica, because Jessica is pregnant. And being so close to being a mum herself, Sylvia still has those residual maternal instincts. Ultimately she decides to protect Jessica too, for the sake of the baby (because I assume that if Jessica wasn’t pregnant no one would protect her except Martin lol).
Sylvia did take some time to decide to take Jessica’s side though. And to give Jessica credit, she was feeling bad enough about the accident that she wanted to go to the police station herself. Or maybe that part was just to convince Sylvia to not reveal her secret…Jessica is after all, a master of reverse psychology.
In the scene above, Sylvia was conveying to Jessica very subtly that she would help keep her secret. So Jessica does lighten up considerably towards the end of this scene. Hmmph. Oh, but what about Constance? You know, the sister with that annoying sense of self-righteousness. Well, although she isn’t the brightest bulb of the 3, (she didn’t pick up the hints that Sylvia was dropping to Jessica anyway) Constance does some poking around of her own, and eventually does figure out the truth.
She then refused to listen to any explanations from Sylvia and Mummy (who is released on bail I presume), and stomps off to the police station. Or at least she tries to.
The thing that’s so inconsistent with Constance is that she sees the world in black and white, but the world is never truly just black or white. She just conveniently assumes that Jessica coerced Mummy into taking the blame, but never once thought that Mummy could be sacrificing herself out of her own will. In a situation which is littered with shades of grey, she chooses to use her narrow view of things to make a decision, and would rather choose not to listen to anyone at all. God, why is she not a police or a crime investigator? Well, eventually she does cave and decide to let them go on with their lies, while she runs away from the whole situation. Like how she always does (with her first husband Frankie, and she also suggesting eloping with Terrence albeit unsuccessfully).
Terrence approaches Constance before she leaves, to try and talk to her. Pardon the shoddy screenshot of that, but my main aim was actually to capture Constance’s bag (which looks like Chanel to me, I’m not sure). Heh. Well, Terrence tries to lend a shoulder to Constance because he knows times are hard for her family now. I don’t think he knows the whole story though. But Constance would have none of it. She rejects his advances, because he tried to pin everything on Elise. God, he did seem to conveniently forget that he actually slept with Elise. And not like something like that can happen against his will. *rolls eyes* She then tells him that she’ll take their divorce very seriously, and jets off somewhere.
Meanwhile, Mummy is sentenced to 6 months of jail. Which is OMG. It was vehicular manslaughter, for god’s sake. Someone died. If people can get away with just 6 months… *shakes head* and it was just a little boy too.
Anyway, with the sentence, we are then carried forward to 2 years later. We see Terrence on his yacht doing his work, apparently he’s been inhabiting the yacht for some time, and he decides to move to a hotel instead of home when his assistant tells him that a typhoon’s due. Then we’re brought to Tibet, where Constance is. She’s grown quite a bit, and gone all boho hippie chick.
Her hair is all tied back, which does make her more mature. Hopefully her character will be more mature as well. And…
She now has lots of new hobbies, among them painting and photography. Yeah, she has gone paparazzi with a DSLR, taking photos of random scenes around Tibet with her shaky hands. I don’t think image stabilisers do that much to help shaky hands. Oh well, while she is pondering and enjoying her cup of tea, someone familiar sits down opposite her…
And the credits roll. Dang. We’ll just have to wait till the next episode then.
P/s: I don’t think the person is Terrence. It seems like they definitely want us to think it’s Terrence, but I doubt it is. Could be Mr Sun, since he does have a tendency to stalk her. Or Derek, who definitely has stalked her in the past. We’ll see.
